Dhanush’s Maari 2 is the next most anticipated sequel from Kollywood after films such as Saamy Square, Vishwaroopam 2 and 2.0, which hogged the spotlight throughout this year.
The film marks the reunion of Dhanush and director Balaji Mohan after the highly successful first part, which featured the former in the role of a local ruffian sporting twirled moustache.
On Tuesday, the makers of Maari 2 announced that the film will be released worldwide on 21 December and the trailer will be unveiled tomorrow (5 December). Not long ago, it was rumoured that Maari 2 will be released alongside Ajith’s Viswasam during Pongal 2019, but this advancement of release comes as a surprise.
Maari 2 was supposed to materialize much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the film had to be pushed.
In the film, Dhanush is paired with Sai Pallavi for the first time and she’s rumoured to be playing an autorickshaw driver. The first single of the film titled 'Rowdy Baby' was released last week and it turned out to be an instant hit.
The film also stars Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar and Krishna in crucial roles. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and had previously starred in Dhanush’s maiden Malayalam production, Tharanga (2017), has been roped in to play the baddie in Maari 2, which will be dubbed and released in Telugu as well.
Last seen playing an accidental gangster in the first part of Vada Chennai trilogy, Dhanush hopes to end the year on a high note with Maari 2.
He’s currently busy shooting for his next yet-untitled project with Vetrimaaran and it’s said to be based on the Tamil novel Vekkai. Dhanush also awaits the release of his much delayed film Enai Noki Paayum Thota, which is expected to be released next year.
