Box office: Simmba earns an impressive Rs75 crore in its first weekend

This is the best opening weekend for a Ranveer Singh-led film, beating the opening that Padmaavat (2018) got earlier this year.

After earning a very good Rs20.50 crore on its opening day on Friday, the box-office collections of Rohit Shetty’s Simmba were expected to grow over the weekend. That is exactly what has happened with the Ranveer Singh-led film.

The film earned Rs23.75 crore and Rs31.50 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film’s Saturday number might not be great, but the film did show a remarkable jump on Sunday.

The grand total of the film, which also features Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana and Siddharth Jadhav, currently stands at an impressive Rs75.75 crore. This is the fourth best opening weekend number of the year after Sanju, Race 3 and Thugs Of Hindostan.

This is also the best ever opening weekend collection for a Ranveer Singh film. His second-best number of Rs75.05 crore also came this year in the form of Sanjay Leela Bhanasali’s Padmaavat, which also featured Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor.

As per trade sources, Simmba has been made at a budget of Rs100 crore. Hence, it needs to hold up well in the weekdays starting today. The good news is that the new year holiday season is on. In addition, no prominent film is scheduled to be released this week.

This ought to allow the film to gather steady collections to enter the new year.
