Box office: 2.0 (Hindi) earns Rs95.25 crore in opening weekend


The film has overall earned Rs380 worldwide so far.

The Hindi version of 2.0 has enjoyed a fairly good run at the box office in its opening weekend, bagging Rs95.25 crore nett. The Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar-starrer earned an impressive Rs33.25 nett on Sunday (2 December), as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.

Made at an estimated budget of Rs543 crore, 2.0 has released across 7,500 screens in India, with 4,000 of them screening the Hindi version. The film is produced by Lyca Productions with AA Films and Dharma Productions distributing the Hindi version.

The Hindi version of the sci-fi thriller made Rs20 crore nett on its opening day (29 November). Earnings dropped to Rs18 crore nett on Friday (30 November), but rose on Saturday (1 December) to Rs24 crore nett. The Sunday collection helped Akshay set a personal record for the highest single day collection with Rs33.25 crore, beating the Rs24.63 crore nett achieved by Gold (2018).

2.0's overall (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) three-day India figure stood at an impressive Rs165 crore nett. As per a trade source, 2.0 is said to have collected around Rs230 crore nett in its all India extended weekend business. According to Boxofficeindia.com, 2.0 has earned Rs380 worldwide so far.

Telugu film Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) holds the record for the highest earning film in India, earning a whopping Rs1,100 crore nett in India business. The film's Hindi version alone made around Rs510 crore nett. It had bagged Rs127 crore nett in its opening weekend itself, whereas the Hindi verson of 2.0 made Rs95.25 crore nett in its opening weekend. 

Given its high budget, 2.0 faces a huge challenge to make substantial profits through box office. The film though is said to have recovered most of its production cost from the sale of ancillary rights. The satellite and digital rights, of the Hindi version, went to Zee TV for Rs125 crore. 

Directed by S Shankar, 2.0 is the sequel to the 2010 film Enthiran. While Rajinikanth returns as Dr Vaseegaran, and as the robot Chitti, Akshay Kumar makes his debut in Tamil cinema as the villain Pakishirajan.
