Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, which stars Ranveer Singh in the titular role, has a special appearance by Ajay Devgn in his Bajirao Singham avatar. Of course, this came as no surprise because the makers had revealed the cameo in the trailer itself.
But there was another guest appearance, one the audience didn’t see coming. Just when it seemed like the end credits will start rolling, Akshay Kumar’s voice boomed. And we were told that he is an ATS, or anti-terrorist squad, officer named Suryavanshi.
We then saw Akshay Kumar as he slowly turned towards the camera. The star was seen wearing a khaki uniform and looking impressive. The colourful logo of Suryavanshi also appeared on the screen.
Simmba Review: Perfect mass entertainer driven by Ranveer Singh’s high energy act
The last time Akshay Kumar was seen as a police officer was in Rowdy Rathore (2012). The last time he wore a police uniform on screen was in the same year in Khiladi 786 (2012), in which he played a fake cop.
We were told that Suryavanshi is Singham’s boss. This might indicate something exciting in the times to come. Simmba and Singham are now friends and the latter is also a part of Akshay Kumar’s team. This indicates that Suryavanshi, or any of the future films in the Singham or Simmba franchises, might feature Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh together as police officers.
Karan Johar, the producer of Simmba, had already revealed during the trailer launch that the title is going to be a franchise.
