According to latest reports, Hindi cinema's veteran actor-screenwriter Kader Khan's health has deteriorated drastically in the last few days. Khan had been admitted to a hospital in Canada, where he has been living with his son Sarfaraz and daughter-in-law Shahista. The couple has been taking care of him for the last few years. Khan has reportedly been in and out of consciousness and making eye-contact at times

A report in Spotboye.com says that the actor has been put on a 'BiPAP(Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) ventilator as doctors are trying to deal with a new problem of 'breathlessness' that he has been facing.

His present condition stems from the PSP ailment (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy is a degenerative disease involving the gradual deterioration and results from damage to nerve cells in the brain) he has been suffering from. The ailment affects movement, control of walking, balance, speech, mood, behavior, and thinking, among other things.

Khan's son and daughter-in-law have been taking turns to be by the 81-year-old actor's side.

In an interview to Spotboye.com in 2017, Sarfaraz had said, "Yes, my dad is facing difficulty in walking. We have to provide him support from both sides. After a few steps, he demands that he wants to sit again. He is scared that he will fall."

Khan went on to make a successful transition from being a screenwriter to a supporting actor in the late 80s.

As a screenwriter, Khan has worked with filmmaker Manmohan Desai on films like Dharam Veer (1977), Ganga Jamuna Saraswati (1988), Coolie (1983), Suhaag (1979) and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), among others. He is also known for his work with Prakash Mehra on films like Sharaabi (1984), Lawaaris (1981) and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978).

Winner of nine Filmfare awards in the best comedian category, Kader Khan is best known for his acting in films like Aankhen (1993), Taqdeerwala (1995), Coolie No.1 (1995), Dulhe Raja (1998), Raja Babu (1994) and Naseeb (1981), among many others.
