Following their successful collaboration on films such as Ayan (2009) and Maattrraan (2012), Suriya and filmmaker KV Anand have joined hands for a third time for an action-thriller, currently dubbed Suriya 37.
Bankrolled by Lyca Productions with a lavish budget, the project officially went on the floors on 25 June 2018 in London.
The regular shooting began with an official pooja attended by Suriya, Anand and other cast and crew members of the film, which also stars Sayyeshaa, Mohanlal, Arya, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.
The rumours about the film’s title have been doing the rounds for a while now. Amid speculation regarding the title, Anand took to Twitter to run a poll with three options and asked fans to choose one. The three options mentioned were Meetpaan, Kaappaan and Uirka. Replying to a fan’s tweet, Anand also revealed that Kaanjagan is the fourth option.
It is believed that Suriya essays the role of a bodyguard in the film while Mohanlal plays the prime minister. The title option Uirka won the poll; however, Anand said the title will be unveiled on 1 January 2019 and thanked fans for their participation in the poll.
Suriya 37 has been shot in nearly 10 countries, including places like New York, Brazil, England, Hyderabad and New Delhi. The film is touted to be the costliest project in Suriya’s career.
