Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga trailer: Sonam Kapoor Ahuja at the heart of a lesbian love story

So far Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has been promoted as a father-daughter story, with real-life father and daughter, Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, playing the lead. 

But the teaser did give us a crucial hint, and the trailer now makes it clear that Shelly Chopra Dhar's film is more of a coming out story of Sweety, a simple girl from a traditional Punjabi family. 

Sweety's father and relatives are desperate to get her married, but she doesn't seem interested. Rajkummar Rao is head over heels in love with her, and she confides in him about the true love of her life. 

Sweety keeps hinting at a secret through the trailer, but it becomes quite obvious that she isn't interested in men.

The trailer is simple, yet intriguing, and would be very interesting to see Sonam at the centre of lesbian love story, a first of its kind in Hindi cinema.  

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga looks beautiful, the cinematography, music and the cast included, but deals with a very important issue. 

It is an important film for Indian pop culture in the wake of the decriminalisation of homosexuality by the Supreme Court, earlier this year. 

It is also a big step for Hindi cinema to have a mainstream film depicting the story of lesbian girl coming out to her traditional Indian family. The sensitivity shown in the trailer makes us expect that Dhar would do justice to the subject.

Dhar treats the film as any other love story in Hindi cinema would be, and that is a win!
