After earning an unsatisfactory number on the first weekend, director Aanand L Rai’s Zero registered a drop on Monday, the first working day for the film, as it made only Rs9.50 crore nett. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif showed a slight jump yesterday on Christmas as it earned Rs11.75 crore nett, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The jump on the national holiday wasn’t much and even if it were, it would not have changed the bigger picture a great deal. The negative reviews and word-of-mouth have ensured that there is no buzz for the film now.
Zero’s grand total domestic box-office collection right now stands at Rs75.85 crore. This score after five days would have been impressive for a moderately budgeted film, but that is certainly not the case with Zero. Trade experts say the film has been made at a whopping cost of Rs200 crore.
Right now, to reach that score looks like a humongous task for the film. The bigger problem it faces is that Rohit Shetty’s Simmba will be released this week on 28 December. The film, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan, is expected to take an impressive opening because of the positive pre-release buzz.
The Hindi version of the Kannada movie KGF: Chapter 1, which clashed with Zero, has performed decently in the first five days. The Yash starrer has so far made Rs16.25 crore in Hindi.
