Veteran television and film actor Gautam Dey, who was battling cancer for a few months, passed away on Christmas eve in a private nursing home in Kolkata.
The actor was shooting for two serials, Karunamoyee Rani Rashmani and Hriday Haran BA Pass, despite his health problems.
Dey, also known for his performances in theatre, became popular with his act as Nara Narayan in the epic Bengali serial Janmabhoomi (1997-2012).
He worked with legendary theatre actors like Robi Ghose, Manoj Mitra and Dulal Lahiri. He is also known for his performances in Labanyer Sangsar, Khunje Berai Kacher Manush, Ishtikutum, Kusumdola and many other television series.
As a supporting actor, he appeared in many films like Baisakhi Megh (1981), Aslilatar Daye (1983), Agnikanya (1990), Garmil (1990), Damu (1996) and Maati (2018).
Andhakare Akela, Sastha Ritu, Dampati and Baishakhi Jhor are some of his more popular theatre works.
The actor apparently did not let his co-actors get a clue about his health condition while shooting. Actress Paoli Dam expressed shock and grief in a tweet saying, “Such shocking news! We have worked in so many projects together. Seems like yesterday that we were shooting for #Maati. Always a smiling face that he had. Rest in peace Goutam Da! You will be missed.”
