Following the success of the Om Bhutkar-led Marathi film Mulshi Pattern, filmmaker and actor Pravin Tarde has announced his forthcoming projects.
The director's next will be a big-budget historical on Shivaji. Tarde revealed this in a Facebook live video with the Marathi-language newspaper Loksatta.
He also revealed that he plans for a sequel to his earlier film, Deool Band (2015).
“I explored spirituality versus science [in Deool Band] and gang war [in Mulshi Pattern]. Now I wish to do a historical film. I want to portray the kind of grandeur never seen before in Marathi cinema in terms of VFX and CGI. It should look grand and such a thing can only be seen in Shivaji Maharaj,” said Tarde.
He said the film won’t merely show Shivaji killing Afzal Khan. “The whole world knows this. Afzal Khan was intelligent and a fraud, so it wasn’t easy to defeat him. He had immense strength as well. So [I wish to show] how Kanhoji [Jedhe] brought 12 Deshmukhs together. It will be the story of how, following this, the whole Marathi samaj stood against Khan with all its might,” said Tarde.
He also revealed the title of the movie will be Jawali 1659: Eka Khanachi Sawari. Explaining his plan, he added, “For the first time, such a high budget film will be seen in Marathi. We will not think about money. Shivaji Maharaj’s valour has to be shown in a rich way. I am sure the Marathi film audience will stand behind me again.”
