Director Anurag Basu has now added Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aditya Roy Kapur to the cast of his next film. The film also features Abhishek Bachchan. Basu began work with Bachchan earlier in October this year, but has clarified that the film is "not a sequel to Life...In A Metro (2007)".
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, Basu confirmed that the film is an anthology with multiple stories, but is very different to his 2007 hit. "It has multiple plots, but it is not a sequel to Life...In A Metro. The genre and story are totally different and fresh. We are yet to decide the title and will figure the release date only after we wrap up the film," Basu said.
This will mark a first-time union between Anurag Basu and Stree (2018) actors, Pankaj Tripathi and Rajkummar Rao.
Initially, the director was supposed to be working on the Kishore Kumar biopic, with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. However, the dismal performance of Jagga Jasoos (2017), and lack of permission from the family of the late singer, has led him to switch projects.
Basu has also signed on Kangana Ranaut for another film, Imali. However, the director admitted he is not sure when the film will go on floors. "I'm not sure when the film will go on the floors because, currently, both of us are tied up with multiple projects," he said.
Ranaut is currently awaiting the release of her directorial debut, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi (2019) that hits the screens on 25 January. Basu, meanwhile, will also be spotted as the judge on Sony Television's reality show, Star Dancer.
