Actor Varun Tej, who currently awaits the release of Telugu space-drama Antariksham, is said to have been signed to play a negative role in the upcoming Telugu remake of Tamil film Jigarthanda (2014). The yet-untitled project will be directed by Harish Shankar, whose last outing was DJ Duvvada Jagannadham (2017) with Allu Arjun.
Apparently, Tej has been roped in to play the role of a gangster, originally played by Bobby Simha in the Tamil version. Simha’s performance earned him several awards and it would be really interesting to see Tej reprise that role. An official confirmation is yet to be made by the film's makers but reliable sources have confirmed that Tej is on board.
Naga Shourya is most likely to play the lead, originally played by Siddharth, while Raj Tarun is believed to have been signed to play Karunakaran’s role from the Tamil version. It is also being reported that Rashmika Mandanna has been signed to reprise Lakshmi Menon’s role from the original.
Jigarthanda revolved around an aspiring filmmaker who sets out to secretly make a film on the life of a gangster he befriends and the events that follow form the crux of the story.
The project, slated to go on the floors early next year, will be bankrolled by 14 Reels Entertainment. The makers are yet to reveal the full cast and crew details.
