Box office: Pad Man gets an average opening in China with Rs10.5 crore

However, the Akshay Kumar-starrer still took the third spot on the China box office.

R Balki's Pad Man (2018), that released in India on 9 February this year, hit the screens in China on 14 December. Despite having 45,974 shows, Pad Man hasn't quite taken off on its opening day in the Middle Kingdom. The film made $1.46 million, approximately Rs10.5 crore at current exchange rate, on its opening day, as reported by Entgroup.cn.

Pad Man is the second Akshay Kumar-film, after Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), to be released in China. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, that released in China as Toilet Hero, had a better opening with $2.25 million (Rs15.80 crore, approximately). The film had released across 4,300 screens in China. However, after a decent opening, the collections of Toilet Hero slowed down, making a total of $14.36 million (Rs97.34 crore, approximately).

Pad Man, a co-production between KriArj Entertainment, Twinkle Khanna, SPE Films India, Cape of Good Films, and Hope Productions, was inspired by the life of India’s 'Menstrual Man', Arunachalam Muruganantham, an activist from Tamil Nadu who invented a machine to produce low-cost sanitary napkins.

Despite an average opening, Pad Man still took the third spot on the China box office. Hollywood's superhero film Aquaman is at the top spot, earning $12.48 million (Rs89 crore, approximately) on 14 December. Aquaman, that released in China on 7 Dcember, has so far earned $147.72 million (Rs1,062 crore, approximately) there.

Japanese animated classic film My Neighbor Totoro (1988) released on the same day as Pad Man and opened with $2.70 million (Rs19.56 crore, approximately).

Made at a budget of Rs76 crore, Pad Man had released in 2,700 screens across India and made Rs78 crore nett in its domestic business.
