Deepika Padukone married actor Ranveer Singh on 14 November in Italy. The star couple later hosted a reception in Mumbai on 28 November where bigwigs from the film industry were invited. One of the surprise guests at the function was actress Katrina Kaif.

The Zero actress (2018) was reportedly not in good terms with Padukone after Kaif started dating Ranbir Kapoor, Padukone's former boyfriend. Padukone had been in a relationship with Kapoor from 2007 to 2009. Kapoor is said to have cheated on Padukone and rumours of the Kaif-Kapoor affair surfaced in 2009. All that though is in the past as Padukone has made peace with Kaif by inviting her to the reception.

"A lot of water has flown under the bridge. For me, just the fact that she came and was very present was gracious. I've always been fond of her. You know, just the way that she's been over the years, and with her work and I have a lot of respect for that. I made my peace with her," Padukone told Filmfare magazine.

Speaking to Pinkvilla.com earlier, Kaif said she too was glad to wish the newlyweds.

“I was invited by them for sure and the instinct in my heart was to go, I felt I would like to go. There was no other thought behind it,” Kaif said.

Both women have moved on in life. While Padukone tied the knot with Singh, Kaif, too, broke up with Kapoor a few years ago. Kapoor is now romantically linked with Alia Bhatt, who was once a close friend of Kaif. The Zero actress though is enjoying being single again.

In a recent interview with Vogue magazine, Kaif had said she believes the break up Kapoor was a blessing.

“What human nature does is that when we have something, or someone, to focus on, we can also shift a lot of our attention there, so we are not really forced to look at ourselves in any great perspective. We are able to kind of shift a lot of responsibility for decisions, for happiness, for entertainment and motivation. So now, when the sole burden of your life, what you are doing, and your state of mind is on your shoulders because there is nothing to distract you, that is a very intense time," Kaif said.

The actress will soon be seen in Aanand L Rai’s Zero that is set to be released on 21 December.
