CBFC censors 'Nakal mein hi akal hai' tagline from Cheat India

The trailer of Emraan Hashmi's Cheat India was released yesterday (12 December). What caught one's imagination was the film's tagline that read, 'Nakal mein hi akal hai [It's only smart to cheat]'. Though apt for the film's subject, the line has not gone down well with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which has asked the film's makers to remove the tagline.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, the CBFC is of the view that the line could promote cheating.
"Even though one examining committee had cleared the film’s tagline in the teaser, another committee found it inappropriate for the trailer. We complied with the CBFC directive and alerted the communication for the cinema and television versions of the trailer, after which U/A certificate was duly granted," producer Tanuj Garg of Ellipsis Entertainment told the tabloid.
The producer also made it clear that the line will not feature in the film.
Cheat India is a film based on corruption in the education system in India. Hashmi plays Rakesh Singh, a corrupt professor who takes money to help rich students secure admission in reputed institutions.
Directed by Soumik Sen, Cheat India is set to be released on 25 January 2019, where it will compete with Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 and Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi.
