Superstar Rajinikanth's next big release is Petta, which marks the actor's maiden collaboration with director Karthik Subbaraj. The makers of the film on Wednesday unveiled the teaser on the occasion of Rajinikanth's birthday and going by the visuals and first impression, the film will bring back 1990s Rajinikanth and it's sure going to be a treat for his fans.
The teaser gives us a glimpse of Rajinikanth in his two avatars. He sports a handlebar moustache in one get-up and sports a bearded look in the second one. If you are a Rajinikanth fan and swear by Rajinism, this teaser is a treat to watch and offers nothing more or less. From the uninhibited laugh to the happy hop towards the end, the teaser fills us with warmth and nostalgia.
Petta, which is produced by Sun Pictures, was recently confirmed as Pongal 2019 release.
The makers even released a poster featuring Rajinikanth and Simran to confirm the release date.
The project marks the Tamil debut of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is believed to be playing Rajinikanth’s friend in the film. Upon joining the film’s sets, he had written on his Twitter page that he has started prepping his lines as he’s started shooting. Vijay Sethupathi, last seen in 96, plays the antagonist.
The film also stars Trisha, Simran, Sasikumar, veteran filmmaker Mahendran, Megha and Bobby Simhaa in key roles. Trisha will be sharing screen space with Rajinikanth for the first time and on being signed for the project, she had said that her career has come full circle.
On teaming up with Rajinikanth, Subbaraj had said he sees it as a fascinating opportunity to make his dream come true. The film, which has been predominantly shot in north India, has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Petta will be released in 2019.
