Box office: Kedarnath holds well on first Monday with Rs4.25 crore nett 

The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and debutant Sara Ali Khan, has collected Rs32 crore nett in the first four days.

Director Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath has held well despite facing competition from the holdover release 2.0. After a fairly decent opening weekend, where it made Rs27.75 crore nett, Kedarnath had decent first Monday as it bagged Rs4.25 crore nett. The film, produced by Ronnie Screwvala, has so far made Rs32 crore nett in domestic business, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.

The Monday box office collection dropped by 50% vis-a-vis the Sunday figures (Rs10.75 crore nett). In comparison to the opening day collection of Rs7.25 crore nett, the first Monday collection has dropped by around 40%.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kedarnath is made at an estimated budget of Rs60 crore, Kedarnath was released across more than 1,850 screens in India.

Kedarnath’s prospects would have been marginally better if the film was released in the major districts of Uttarakhand. Fearing violence, the district magistrates of seven districts — Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Tehri and Almora — decided to not screen the film in these districts.

Kedarnath has Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Khan makes her debut with the romantic drama. The Muslim boy -Hindu girl love story is set in the backdrop of the 2013 flood in Kedarnath.

Meanwhile, holdover release 2.0 (Hindi) had a decent second Monday collecting Rs3.75 crore nett. The Akshay Kumar-Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil film was released across 4,000 screens in the Hindi belt.

2.0 was released in 7,500 screens in India and 10,500 screens worldwide. 2.0 (Hindi) has so far earned Rs167.50 crore nett worldwide. 2.0 (all languages) had grossed Rs550 crore worldwide.
