Kamal Haasan's next film, Vishwaroopam 2, will be out in theatres this week, but audiences and fans, are already thinking ahead to the star's next project, Indian 2. The actor-turned-politician will reunite with his Indian (1996) director S Shankar after 22 years for the big-budget project.

In an interview with Filmcompanion.com, the veteran actor revealed he wanted to make the sequel 15 years ago, but the S Shankar was in two minds about it. The film may end up being his last film as Haasan wants to leave films for politics.

The film's cinematographer, Ravi Varman, told Indiaglitz.com that the script of Indian 2, written by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar, had been finalized. "I know the full story of Indian 2 as Shankar gave me a shot by shot narration for three hours. Indian 2 will be 100 times better than Indian 1. It is really big,” he said.

Director S Shankar's long-in-the-making 2.0 (2018), starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, is due to be released in November and the pre-production for Indian 2 has already begun. Like the casting of 2.0, the director wants to bring in a big name to act opposite Kamal Haasan for this sequel. Reportedly, actor Ajay Devgn will be playing a key role in the film. If he joins the project, this will be Devgn's first Tamil film.
