Despite the beautiful background of Kashmir, this intense love story feels tepid.

"Pyaar ka problem kya hai na, ke jab tak usme pagalpan nahi ho, woh pyaar hi nahin [The problem with love is until there isn't a little madness involved, it isn't love]." So says Kais (Avinash Tiwary), the hero of Laila Majnu.
In Sajid Ali's directorial debut, he falls in love with the beautiful Laila (Tripti Dimri). They keep running into each other at social events, eventually their flirtation and banter turns into love. However, their families seems to be enemies and the real world intrudes in on their hidden love lives. Circumstances force them apart and Kais descends into madness over his love for Laila. At one point, he seems to be living in the forest like a hermit and at another, he is being chased a mob of men.
The film seems to be an updated version of the classic tale of the star-crossed lovers and the romance between the two seems tepid rather than passionate.
The delayed film, co-produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Preety Ali, is due to be released on 7 September. Sajid's brother, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, is presenting the film.
Tiwary was last seen in Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2017), while Dimri has previously acted in Poster Boys (2017).
