After Kesari (2019) and Kalank (2019), it looks like Dharma Productions is aiming to add another historical drama to its roster.
Word is that producer Karan Johar is set to take up the director's chair once again for this upcoming project which will star Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Alia Bhatt.
According to Koimoi.com, Karan Johar's next will be a historical film set in the Mughal dynasty. The film has key parts for two actors and two actresses.
Karan Johar has already zeroed in on Ranveer Singh, who is currently filming Rohit Shetty's Simmba (2018) with the production house. Ranveer Singh would play the older brother while the director is still on the lookout for a younger actor to play the younger sibling with grey shades.
Actresses, and Johar favourites Kapoor Khan and Bhatt are also said to be part of the film. Kapoor Khan would play Ranveer Singh's sister while Bhatt would be his love interest.
Kareena Kapoor Khan was recently announced as one of the actresses in Dharma's upcoming Good News (2019) with Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. Alia Bhatt will feature in two Dharma films next year — the period film Kalank (2019) and the fantasy trilogy Brahmastra (2019).
Karan Johar's last film as director was the emotional love saga, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). He also directed one of the shorts in the Netflix anthology, Lust Stories (2018), starring Advani and Vicky Kaushal.
All the six films that Karan Johar has directed in his career so far have been contemporary stories. He will be taking a huge risk, and stepping out of his comfort zone, by directing a historical.
Apparently, the director has been researching the Mughal dynasty and speaking with experts about the period. Dharma Productions hopes to replicate the scale and grandeur of the Baahubali films which went on to become a success around the world.
Once confirmed, shooting for the untitled project will begin in May. If the reports are correct, the film's casting and setting would make for an interesting watch.
