Best Indian TV or cinema for years: Author-historian William Dalrymple praises Sacred Games 

Netflix launched Sacred Games, the first of the seven Indian originals, in July this year. The first season of the series has largely got positive reviews and generated good feedback on social media.

As actress Elnaaz Norouzi, one of the cast members of the show, informed us in an interview, Sacred Games is being appreciated outside India too. Renowned Scottish author-historian William Dalrymple, who is also one of the co-founders and co-drectors of the annual Jaipur Literature Festival, is among those impressed by the crime-drama.

Dalrymple watched the first season and praised the show, not hesitating to call it the best Indian content he has seen for years.

“Just finished the final episode of Sacred Games last night and completely loved it: best Indian TV or cinema for years…,” Dalrymple tweeted.

The first season of Sacred Games was co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap and stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Neeraj Kabi.

Dalrymple completed his graduation from the Ampleforth College and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was first a history exhibitioner and then a senior history scholar. Post 1989, he has largely lived in India. Some of his works include In Xanadu: A Quest (1989), City of Djinns: A year in Delhi (1994), White Mughals (2002), The Last Mughal, The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi 1857 (2006) and the latest Koh-i-Noor: The History of the World's Most Infamous Diamond (2017).
