Actor Dev Patel hasn't had a film release since his Oscar-nominated turn as Saroo Brierly in Lion (2016). This September, two of his films are set to have their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) under their special presentation section.

In Michael Winterbottom's The Wedding Guest (2018), Patel plays a British Muslim man (Dev Patel) who journeys across India and Pakistan. Actress Radhika Apte and actor Jim Sarbh are also in the film. Winterbottom's Trishna (2011) starring Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed was also set in India.

Patel is also part of the ensemble cast of Anthony Maras's Hotel Mumbai (2018) with actors Armie Hammer, Jason Isaacs, and Anupam Kher and actress Nazanin Boniadi. The film, which marks the 10-year anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, will tell the stories of the survivors and victims. From the still released of the film, it seems Patel plays a Sikh character.

He is currently filming Armando Iannucci's The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019), based on the novel by Charles Dickens, in Hull, UK. Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton, Benedict Wong, Ben Whishaw and Gwendoline Christie are also acting in the period film.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is being held from 6 to 16 September. The screening dates for the special presentations of The Wedding Guest (2018) and Hotel Mumbai (2018) have not yet been revealed.
