The producer has reportedly bought the rights for the tennis player’s life story.

Tennis player Sania Mirza could be the latest sportperson to get her life retold on the big screen. In recent years, track star Milkha Singh (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, 2013), cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin (Azhar, 2016) and MS Dhoni (MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, 2016), and hockey player Sandeep Singh (Soorma, 2018) have all had their lives retold on celluloid.
Ronnie Screwvala’s production house RSVP has reportedly bought the rights for Mirza’s life story. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
Mirza, who began playing tennis at age six, turned professional at 17 in 2003 and has largely remained the highest ranked female tennis player from India. The former number one player in doubles, Mirza also reached to number 27 in singles in 2007. She had to retire from her singles career in 2013 and focus on her doubles after a wrist injury.
She has won six Grand Slam titles, winning women’s doubles championships with partner Martina Hingis at Wimbledon, US Open and the Australian Open in 2015 and 2016. She won the 2009 mixed doubles championship at the Australian Open and the 2012 French Open with fellow Indian Mahesh Bhupathi. She won the 2014 US Open with Brazilian player Bruno Soares.
Mirza is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik since 2010. In April this year, the couple announced that Mirza was pregnant with their first child.
RSVP has produced the Netflix releases, Love Per Square Foot (2018) and Lust Stories (2018), along with Karwaan (2018) this year. Last year, Screwvala had also announced that he would be producing a film revolving around the growing popularity of blind cricket in India. In 2012, the Indian team had won the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup defeating Pakistan in the final match.
