The release of director Satish Rajwade’s Mumbai Pune Mumbai 3 has been postponed for the third film.
The film was initially scheduled to hit the screens in April this year but was shifted to 28 September. And now, the makers of the film, starring Swwapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve, have announced that it will be released on 7 December.
Only one Hindi film is scheduled to be released on 7 December so far — Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal, the third film in the Dhamaal franchise.
The month of December already looks packed with big budget Hindi films including Shah Rukh Khan's Zero and Ranveer Singh's Simmba. Vijay Gutte's The Accidental Prime Minister is also set for a December release.
The second film in the Mumbai Pune Mumbai franchise, Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2 (2015), had succeeded at the box office though it had tough competition. The film had clashed with Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and another big Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusli.
The first instalment, Mumbai Pune Mumbai (2010), saw the two characters meeting and falling in love, and the second was based on their wedding. The plot of the third film is not known yet. This is the first film franchise in Marathi cinema to reach the third instalment.
Speaking about the franchise, Rajwade had recently said in an official statement, “While shooting for Mumbai Pune Mumbai, we did not expect that we will go for the sequel. But during the making of its second part we realized that there was a room for the third part of the film. It would not be appropriate to reveal any details about the upcoming film, but I can surely say that the third part will again prove to be equally successful.”
