Atul Manjrekar's Fanney Khan, Akarsh Khurana's Karwaan and Anubhav Sinha's Mulk released yesterday (3 August) but none have managed to record a good opening at the box office.
Fanney Khan earned Rs1.85 crore, Karwaan made Rs1.45 crore and Mulk earned Rs1.55 crore, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindiac.com.
Mulk review: Anubhav Sinha exposes the many prejudices that ail this nation
Even though Fanney Khan has earned the most from the lot, the film has been largely panned by the critics. Also, the relatively high number does not mean that the film is doing well. As per a trade source, Fanney Khan is made at a budget of Rs35 crore. With an opening this low, the film might find it difficult to cover the cost of production.
Positive reviews and word-of-mouth for Karwaan and Mulk might help the films in the coming week.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood action-thriller Mission: Impossible — Fallout continued its good run on second Friday too, earning Rs3 crore. The film was released on 27 July. Its grand total in India now stands at an impressive Rs56.75 crore.
Karwaan review: Funny, emotional, moving, this Irrfan-Dulquer-Mithila journey is a treat
However, Shashank Khaitan's Dhadak, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, which released on 20 July, experienced a drop in collections on its third Friday. The Hindi remake of Nagraj Popatrao Manjule's Marathi blockbuster Sairat earned Rs50 lakh on 3 August. The film has earned a total of Rs69 crore so far.
