Madras high court issues notice to Kamal Haasan over unpaid dues

The court has asked the actor-turned politician to reply to the petition filed by Pyramid Saimira Productions by 6 August, the next date for hearing.

The Madras high court on Friday (3 August) directed the actor-turned-politician to submit his reply by 6 August to the petition filed by Pyramid Saimira Productions, a multinational entertainment company.

The company had approached the high court seeking a stay on the release of Vishwaroopam 2 claiming that the actor owes it Rs7.75 crore which will not be recovered if the film is released.

The court issued a notice to the actor asking him to reply by 6 August, the next date for hearing.

According to the company's director PS Swaminathan, Pyramid Saimira Productions had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Rajkamal Films International, in which Haasan is a partner, in the year 2008 to co-produce film Marmayogi at a cost of Rs100 crore.

Haasan had allegedly agreed to play the lead role in Marmayogi and also write its story, screenplay and dialogues.

"However, the actor, instead of using the funds to make the movie, utilised it to make another movie called Unnaipol Oruvan (2009). A case pertaining to this dispute has already been filed and is pending in court. Under these circumstances, the actor has now produced a film called Vishwaroopam 2 and releasing it on 10 August," the petitioner had stated.
