Director Mudassar Aziz’s Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, the sequel to his own Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016), has finished its first week on a negative note.
The film starring Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Sheirgill, Jassi Gill, Diana Penty, Ali Fazal and Piyush Mishra collected only Rs16.75 crore in this period, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film had showed a decent hold on Monday and the numbers stayed in the same range till Thursday. However, the damage was done on the first weekend itself when the film made just Rs11.25 crore.
According to trade sources, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi was made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore. With such numbers in the first week, the film faces a challenge to even reach the cost of production.
Happy Bhag Jayegi had earned more than the sequel in the first week, with Rs17.50 crore.
Genius, which was released along with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, has proved to be a disaster as expected. The Anil Sharma directorial made just Rs4.75 crore in its first week against an estimated production cost of Rs25 crore.
Meanwhile, the two Independence Day releases, Reema Kagti’s Gold and Milap Milan Zaveri’s Satyameva Jayate, saw a big drop in numbers in their second week. Gold, with Akshay Kumar, and Satyameva Jayate, with John Abraham, made Rs12.50 crore and Rs10 crore, respectively in this week.
The grand total for Gold and Satyameva Jayate stands at Rs100.85 crore and Rs75.85 crore, respectively.
With Gold, Akshay Kumar has again reached the Rs100 crore mark. However, the film is still a long way from being declared a hit, having been made at a high estimated cost of Rs85 crore.
Satyameva Jayate, on the other hand, has proved rather more successful, made as it was at an estimated cost of Rs50 crore.
