‘Tunu Tunu’ from Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se is just another Punjabi song in a Hindi film

Punjabi is one language that has appeared most regularly in songs in mainstream Hindi cinema. One can list countless such songs that carried the Punjabi touch — 'Jogi Mahi' from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), 'Nagada' from Jab We Met (2007), 'Sadi Gali' from Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and 'Kala Chashma' from Baar Baar Dekho (2016) to name a few.

‘Tunu Tunu’ track from director Navaniat Singh’s Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, starring the three Deols — Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby — is just another Punjabi number in a Hindi film.

Looks like the lead characters are in a celebratory mood in the song. The makers have spent lavishly on the production design and costumes, with light and colour everywhere, even on the sticks used for the bhangra. 

As far as the audio is concerned, the sounds of dhol and banjo used throughout the song by composer Sanjeev Darshan, sounds cliched. The lyrics, too, are mediocre. Singers Alamgir Khan and Jyotika Tangri have the right amount of energy. 

While Bobby is the best in the Deol clan when it comes to dancing, he could have done better. Female lead Kriti Kharbanda impresses with her moves. Sunny and Dharmendra also appear at the end and try to match the steps. Dharmendra shows some energy but Sunny just struggles.

Sunny and Bobby continue to play brothers in this film and unlike the previous two films in the franchise, Dharmendra isn’t playing their father.
