Amitabh Bachchan is a living legend, an inspiration to actors today. Young or old, for many it would be a dream to work with him. However, the 75-year-old actor considers himself fortunate to have worked with the best from the past and from the present.
At the press conference of the new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Bachchan was asked to name the yesteryear actresses who inspire him. The 102 Not Out (2018) actor was quick to name Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari and Nutan.
“I have been a big fan of Waheeda ji. I had the pleasure of working with her. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the opportunity to work with Meena Kumari ji, I had done one film with Nutan ji, Saudagar (1973).” said Bachchan.
The actor then showered praise on a host of actresses from the new generation.
“From the new generation, I like Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone. All these actresses are competent. I get scared to work with them,” said Bachchan, adding, “All the new actors they are just so brilliant. We [yesteryear actors] took years and years, and we are still trying to fine tune our craft. These people come first day on the set, and they know exactly what they are doing. They are so confident, so matured. Look at what Ranbir Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Varun Dhawan, Rajkummar Rao are doing.”
Bachchan even mentioned the name of Kartik Aaryan, but like many struggled to get the title of his film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) right. Bachchan was full of praise for all.
“I get so obessed with .. [pauses] I keep writing to them, sending them flowers. But really I am very fortunate that I’m able to live through that period where I was able to see Meena Kumari, Nutan and Waheeda ji to now getting an opportunity to work with Alia and Ranbir. It is just an unbelievable experience,” Bachchan quipped.
The veteran actor has worked with Padukone in Piku (2015), but is yet to work with Anushka Sharma.
The new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati will have 60 episodes and will be aired from 3 September.
