Varun Dhawan's penchant for comedy seems to have revived father David Dhawan's inspiration for the genre. Reports now suggest the director is working on a comic script for son, Varun, in his next project. The script is reportedly a revival of the hit 'No 1' comedy series from the 1990's that launched David Dhawan into the A-list.
The Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, quoted a source as saying, "Impressed with Varun’s performance in one of his upcoming films, David wanted to collaborate with his son again for an out-and-out comedy for which he has already begun pre-production and frequent meetings with technicians. However, this one isn’t a remake like Judwaa 2 but an original script that will revive David’s No.1 series."
The No.1 series began with David's Coolie No.1 (1995), and was followed by Hero No.1 (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Jodi No.1 (2001) and Shaadi No.1 (2005). The series proved to be one of the most successful, and coincided with Govinda's rise to stardom.
The director has already worked with son, Varun, in Main Tera Hero (2014), which was also a comedy entertainer. Following which they teamed up again for Judwaa 2 (2017), a remake of David's 1997 hit, Judwaa.
The report also suggested that the film is likely to go on the floors next year, and work on the script has already begun.
Varun is currently shooting for Abhishek Varman's Kalank, which also stars Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit Nene, and Sonakshi Sinha. The actor is currently awaiting the release of Sui Dhaaga, directed by Sharat Katariya, that hits the screens on 28 September.
