Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu Sengupta, Tuhina Das to star in Aparna Sen's E Juger Ghare Baire

Aparna Sen’s modern adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's novel Ghare Baire, titled E Juger Ghare Baire, will go on floors next month. The novel was earlier made into a film by Satyajit Ray in 1984, starring Victor Banerjee, Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta.

It was earlier rumoured that actor Kaushik Sen will essay the character of Nikhilesh, previously enacted by Banerjee, in the modern adaptation. However, the director has now confirmed that actor Anirban Bhattacharya has been roped in instead of Kaushik, while Jisshu Sengupta will be seen as Sandip, the iconic character played by Chatterjee in Ray's film.

Tuhina Das, who was last seen in Ashche Abar Shobor (2018), will appear as Bimala. However, Aparna Sen’s take on her character in this film will be contemporaneous. The character's name too has also been changed to Brinda.

The National Award winning director reportedly conceived the idea of E Juger Ghare Baire after the murder of journalist-author Gauri Lankesh. She felt the urgency to make a film on the current political situation of the country in which the voices of reason and moderation are being silenced. The film depicts the passionate love triangle between the characters, in the light of modern political situation.

In the film, the character of Nikhilesh will be an editor of an online newsportal, known for its liberal and progressive views, Das plays a young Dalit girl, whereas Jisshu will be first seen as an angry leftist student in his 20s and then as a nationalist leader in his 40s. Soumik Haldar will handle the cinematography of the film.
