Box office: Gold eyes Rs100 crore nett, Satyameva Jayate closes in Rs70 crore nett

Gold has so far bagged Rs88.10 crore nett, while Satyameva Jayate has earned Rs65.85 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Reema Kagti's Gold and Milap Zaveri's Satyameva Jayate haven’t quite set the box office on fire, but the two films fared fairly well in their extended first week. Both films released on Wednesday, 15 August on Independence Day. Gold has so far bagged Rs88.10 crore nett, while Satyameva Jayate has earned Rs65.85 crore nett at the Indian box office, as reported by Boxoffceindia.com. 

Yesterday (23 August), both films fetched around Rs3.25 crore nett.  A day before that, on 22 August (a holiday for Eid), Gold bagged Rs6 crore nett and Satyameva Jayate shut shop with Rs5 crore. 

Even though Gold is in the lead, Satyameva Jayate is on its way to being declared a hit. Made at an estimated budget of Rs50 crore, the John Abraham-starrer released across 2,500 screens. Meanwhile, Gold, starring Akshay Kumar, is made at an esitmated budget of Rs85 crore and released across 3,500 screens. 

Satyameva Jayate has already emerged as the most successful film for John Abraham as a solo lead. Early this year, John's Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran had earned a total of Rs64.81 crore nett in domesic business.

Eros International and Aanand L Rai produced Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi and Anil Sharma’s Genius hit the screens today (24 August).
