Veteran actor Vijay Chavan dies at 63


He was suffering a from lung disease and passed away on Friday (24 August) morning at Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Mumbai.

Veteran Marathi film and theatre actor Vijay Chavan died at age 63 on Friday (24 August) morning after battling a lung disease. Chavan was admitted to Mulund's Fortis Hospital five days ago and passed away early morning at around 5am.

Famous for his comedic performances, the legendary actor was best known for his part as the title character in the film adaptation of the famous Marathi play Moruchi Maushi by Pralhad Keshav Atre. He acted in over 350 films in both Hindi and Marathi; from Zapatlela (1993) to Shrimant Damodar Pant (2013).

He was honoured with the prestigious V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award by the government of Maharashtra this April.

Members of the Marathi film industry and fans of Chavan's work mourned the loss of the talented actor.
