Raja Chanda’s upcoming romantic-comedy Girlfriend’s title track is out. Real life romantic pair Bonny Sengupta and Koushani Mukherjee will be seen romancing onscreen in this film.
Composed by Jeet Gannguli, the title track has been penned and sung by Rupam Islam. The urban yet soft composition features Sengupta in the avatar of a college student who has fallen madly in love with his classmate, played by Mukherjee. The words describe how Sengupta’s character looks opportunities to get a glimpse of his love interest; in the bus, in the library.
The lyrics of the song contain Bengali and English words, making the track quite contemporary. The song narrates how the love struck boy misses classes, gets lost in his dreams, imagines himself to be a ‘Hero’ and wishes to call the girl his girlfriend, but soon realizes that he is only dreaming.
Islam’s words speak of the inexplicable and intoxicating feeling of love, which is so hard to articulate. The lover here tries to frame his thoughts, but realises that ‘girlfriend’s' definition is perhaps something else.
The lyrics sound like the ones from Bangla Band songs, a familiar zone for Islam. At the same time, it is nice to hear Islam lending his voice to a romantic number which is far away from a rock or an alternative rock composition. The lyrics are quite catchy, however, the composition is too flat and repetitive. Girlfriend title song surely doesn’t bear the signature of Gannguli’s melody infused creations.
