The Malayalam cult film, Angamaly Diaries, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery is getting an official Marathi remake.

Directed by Joe Rajan, the Marathi version will be called Kolhapur Diaries and presented by music composer Avadhoot Gupte.

The film is currently being shot in Kolhapur in southwestern Maharashtra. The film’s cast has not yet been announced.

Joe, who made his directorial debut with Luv U Soniyo (2013), revealed that there were many who wanted to remake the film in Hindi, but the Marathi remake would be more fitting.

"Many Hindi producers were also trying to acquire the rights, but I am happy we are doing the film in Marathi and adding a Kolhapuri tadka to it," he told The Times of India newspaper. "I think a regional language remake can do more justice to the film than a mainstream 'Bollywood' film."

The 2017 hit Angamaly Diaries introduced 86 new artistes. It revolved around the character of Vincent Pepe who wishes to rule his hometown, Angamaly, with his own gang. Since its release last March, the film has been a critical and commercial success.
