Paltan song: 'Raat Kitni' remembers those left behind

The poignant song, written by Javed Akhtar, is aptly rendered by Sonu Nigam.

Sonal Pandya

Gathered around a waning fire, the soldiers posted along the Indo-China border think about their loved ones and those dearest to them. The simple yet poignant song, written by Javed Akhtar and composed by Anu Malik, gives prominence to those left behind.

Alone with their thoughts at night, they can finally wander about those hard goodbyes and joyous occasions that they are not a part of. One by one, each member of the Paltan, from the characters of Arjun Rampal to Sonu Sood to Harshvardhan Rane, think of their beloved back home.

The song presents the chance to see the women of the film for the first time. Actresses Esha Gupta, Sonal Chauhan, Deepika Kakar and Monica Gill are the other halves of these Indian heroes.

Sonu Nigam brings real weight to 'Raat Kitni'. It's been a while since the singer has sung a number of this kind. In 1997, he and Roopkumar Rathod sung the evergreen number 'Sandese Aate Hai' from Border and this brings up memories of the same.
