Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s next is titled Panga starring Kangana Ranaut, Jassie Gill

The announcement of writer-director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s next film after Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) came in the form of a moving and emotional video in which Iyer Tiwari and her film’s stars Kangana Ranaut, Jassie Gill and Neena Gupta talked about how their families’ support enabled them to move forward in life.

The 1-minute-2-seconds video begins with the filmmaker stating, “I can take risks and follow my passion because they are rooting for me every day,” referring to her husband Nitesh, also a filmmaker, and their two children.

Next is actress Kangana Ranaut who says, “It hasn’t been an easy journey. But my family gives me the strength to face it all.” There are photographs of the Ranaut family including her adorable little nephew Prithviraj.

Actor Jassie Gill simply says, “Woh hain, toh main hoon [I am, only because of them],” about his parents and his family. Finally, actress Neena Gupta concludes by saying, “My family is my support system, my courage, my inspiration and my trophy too!” Photographs of her family especially her daughter, designer Masaba are also part of the short video.

Panga, as the video states, is “the story of a family taking on the world”. In the film, Ranaut plays a National-level kabbadi player while Gill will be playing her husband. This will be the first time the actress will be playing a sportsperson; in Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), she acted as Kusum, a young Haryanvi student-athlete.

All of the cast members shared that they were moved by Panga’s script and the family created within the film, and that is the main reason why they agreed to come on board the project. Nikhil Mehrotra and Iyer Tiwari have written the screenplay and dialogues of the film.

Produced by Fox Star Studios, Panga is due to be released next year.
