A man driving to Guwahati gets held up in his car by a young girl with a gun. It's clear she's running away from someone dangerous.
A young man, under the bad influence of peers and drug abuse, becomes a drug peddler himself. Selfishly, he has no care for anyone but himself.
An aimless man, given to drinking and gambling all day, takes up an illegal job in elephant poaching. Fed up with the taunts from his wife, he involves himself in a treacherous game.
These three diverging stories come together with likely devastating results in this intriguing first trailer by writer-director Sanjib Dey. There are few stories that come out from the region and fewer that deal with the real issues that the plague the far east. It is commendable that Deb has chosen these tales to tell for his first film.
The anthology film stars Indraneil Sengupta, Subrat Dutta, Shiny Gogoi, Siddharth Boro, Mandakini Goswami and Amrita Chattopadhyay.
Inspired by true events, III Smoking Barrels: Stories From Far East India is due to be released on 21 September.
