Adil Hussain wins Best Actor for What Will People Say at Norway's Amanda Awards

Actor Adil Hussain became the first Indian to win an award, for best actor, at Norway's Amanda Awards for his performance in the 2017 film What Will People Say (Hva Vil Folk Si). The Amanda Awards, established since 1985, are Norway's highest film honour that promote the country's cinema.

The actor shared his news on social media and noted that he was truly grateful for the honour. He dedicated his award to his hometown of Goalpara, Assam writing "for all those who believe that Art Can Break All Boundaries of All Kinds".

The actor played a strict honour-bound father in Iram Haq's largely autobiographical film What Will People Say (2017) who sends his young daughter Nisha (Maria Mozhdah) back to his relatives in Pakistan after she is caught in her bedroom with her Norwegian boyfriend. The father-daughter have a strained relationship in the film.

Haq is a second generation Norwegian who took to cinema to tell her story with What Will People Say.

The film also won three more awards for best film, best director and best screenplay for Haq. Hussain was present with the film's cast and crew at the awards and picked up the best actor award in person.
