It is the age of star-kids, and Suhana Khan has made it to the cover of Vogue magazine. While the young girl is still to make her debut or begin her career as an actor, she appeared confident as she dealt with questions on media scrutiny, fame, and her passion to be an actor.
The cover was unveiled by her father, actor Shah Rukh Khan, who said, "I hope it is not taken as an entitlement because she happens to be Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter but I hope it is seen as a responsibility that Suhana now has. Thank you very much for giving her this opportunity."
Holding her in my arms again thanks to Vogue. ‘What imperfect carriers of love we are...” except when it comes to our children. So sending u all my love & a big hug. Hello Suhana Khan! pic.twitter.com/RrkhJ8kfz5

The thought seemed to be an echo of his daughter's statement in her interview, which reads, "There are so many people talking about you. They don’t know you, and they don’t know what they’re talking about, but they’re just talking. And that can mess with your self-confidence. I keep telling myself that haters are going to hate, but I can’t honestly say that I don’t get upset by it. It’s annoying, but I keep telling myself other people have bigger problems."
Despite the intense media and public scrutiny, Suhana has maintained that she will pursue a career in acting after her graduation. Currently working on her international baccalaureate exams at a private boarding school in London, she plans to pursue acting in her graduation. "There’s so much to learn, and one way to do it is to start [working] early, but first I want to go to university and finish studies."
In that, the young girl will have company of her sibling, Aryan, who is also pursuing filmmaking in college at Los Angeles. The magazine cover described her as a 'student, theatre lover, and future star', which stems from the young girl's already viral presence on stage. Her performance as Miranda in a staging of William Shakespeare's The Tempest at school recently caught the attention of the media.
Speaking about acting, she said, "Since I was young, I’d do all these accents and impressions. But my parents only realised I was serious about acting when they saw a performance of mine for the first time. I was playing Miranda in a school performance of The Tempest."
There are similarities between The Tempest and Suhana's own life. Shakespeare's play revolves around the obsessive love of a father over her daughter, and judging by Shah Rukh's recent adoration of the cover, it seems right. The actor was also present during Suhana's shoot, and even 'massaged her feet'. Vogue quoted the actor saying "Pretend I’m not here, I just want to hang out with my daughter."
The cover certainly caught the attention of several industry insiders, with family friend Karan Johar gushing over it.
Have seen her on stage and had my heart bursting with pride!! She is stunning, soulful and a bonafide talent! Welcome to the spotlight my darling! Even in its harshest moments it will envelop you with immense love....and thank you for never calling me UNCLE! Love you â¤ï¸Ââ¤ï¸Ââ¤ï¸Â pic.twitter.com/wGIfET0nrD

The attention has not all been well and good. Perhaps that is why when the 18-year-old was approached by Vogue through her parents, she was told to 'think about it'. She said, "I was excited when my parents brought it up. I wanted to say yes straight away, but they wanted me to think about it — this is a very public thing. They wanted me to gain confidence from the experience, not lose it."
The reason was quite obvious with the repercussions visible on social media. Several profiles on Twitter raised questions over why an 18-year-old ought to be given a high profile magazine cover based on her family connections. However, that might change in the future.
Shah Rukh hinted that his daughter might make a debut in Hindi cinema soon, although the actor expressed that he wanted to wait till his children are 'good-enough actors'. Vogue quoted him as saying, "Suhana’s not working towards a promise of being cast, she’s working towards being an actor, and she knows that. I keep insisting that I don’t want them designed as stars, I want them to be launched when they are good-enough actors."
With Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan's daughter Sara Ali Khan already making their way through Hindi cinema, it might soon be time for another star daughter to step into the limelight.
