After Raid, Ajay Devgn-Bhushan Kumar join hands for Taanaji; film to go on floors in September

Taanaji will be directed by Om Raut, who made the Marathi film Lokmanya: Ek Yugpurush, also a biopic.

Actor Ajay Devgn announced the biopic on the Maratha warrior Tanaji last year along with the film’s poster. Titled Taanaji, the film is now finally all set to go on the floors at the end of September, according to an official statement. In another development, Bhushan Kumar, head honcho of T-Series, has joined hands with Devgn for the film.

Kumar and Devgn had a successful association earlier this year with director Rajkumar Gupta’s Raid. This is the first time that Kumar will venture into a period costume drama.

According to the statement, Taanaji will go on the floors after Devgn finishes Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal, the third film in the Dhamaal series, and Akiv Ali’s next, which is also produced by Kumar.

The statement says that the movie “will showcase the life of this unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, who fought for his people, his soil & his king Chhatrapati Shivaji.”

Taanaji will be directed by Om Raut. He has previously directed the Marathi biopic, Lokmaya: Ek Yugpurush (2015) featuring Subodh Bhave. The film told the life story of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, popularly known as Lokmanya Tilak.

Taanaji will be Raut's debut Hindi film as a director.
