The trailer of debut director Rana Banerjee’s upcoming thriller Drishyantar was launched yesterday (16 August) by Amara Muzik. With theatre as an important part in it, the film features prominent theatre artiste Debshankar Halder, actresses Srabanti Chatterjee, Indrani Halder and newcomer Vicky Deb.

The trailer begins with Debshankar as Asit Ranjan Das, proclaiming that his life revolves around theatre and will continue to be so. He announces to stage a production to make himself more popular, starring Rupsa (Chatterjee), a popular film actress. Rupsa, too, egged on by her love interest played by Deb, agrees to venture into the new world and begins her training under Asit Ranjan.

The trailer is interspersed with visuals from stage productions and glimpses of Rupsa’s romantic life. As she declares that acting in a theatre to be her challenge before the press, both Rupsa and Asit Ranjan attract enemies. A murder takes place in the upper floor of Rupsa’s apartment, and enters Indrani Halder as the sleuth, who investigates into the case.

While Rupsa begins to face threats every now and then, the process of staging the production gets complicated, with the involvement of her rivals. The trailer ends with Indrani throwing the question, 'who has committed the murder?'

The trailer promises that the film will deal with an unusual storyline and theme. The parallel narratives from the trailer also generate a lot of anticipation regarding the thriller element in it.

“Drishyantar is my debut venture where I wanted to portray a thriller story. Srabanti plays Rupsa, a married woman who wants to foray into theatre and starts her training under the tutelage of Asit Ranjan Das, played by Debshankar Halder. I am fortunate to have worked with both gifted actors in my first project. Directing them was such a pleasure. The brief period of darkness between two scenes in a theatre is the crux of the story of Drishyantar,” said the director.

Drishyantar’s music has been composed by Indradip Dasgupta. The film is slated to be released on 24 August.
