Singer Abhijeet Bhattarcharya, who tends to court trouble with his controversial socio-political comments, finds himself in a soup yet again. The Amboli police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the singer, for allegedly using foul language against a woman, under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, a daily, the woman resides in the same building where Bhattacharya has rented out an apartment. The report stated that an argument broke out between the woman and Bhattacharya over drilling work being carried out in the society. The woman has alleged that Bhattacharya used some profane words against her. The singer, however, has denied receiving any notice from the police and has accused the woman of extortion.

“She has been threatening me and others to extort money. I have given a commercial place on rent. My tenants were getting some work done, and she objected to it. Being the owner of the place, I intervened in it," Bhattacharya told Hindustan Times

The singer is no stranger to controversies. He often raises eye brows with his social and political comments on news channels and social media.

In 2015, the Oshiwara police had booked the singer for allegedly molesting a 34-year-old woman at a Durga Puja pandal in Lokhandwala. In another incident, Aam Aadmi Party leader Preeti Kumar Menon had filed complaint against him for allegedly abusing a woman journalist on Twitter.

In May this year, Twitter had suspended his account after he allegedly posted a series of insensitive and sexist tweets against Jawaharlal Nehru University student-activist Shehla Rashid, who had posted tweet about a Bhartiya Janata Party leader being accused of rape. Bhattacharya had returned later with a new handle. Singer Sonu Nigam had deleted his own Twitter account to express solidarity with him.
