Rohit Shetty’s Simmba has been in the news ever since it was announced last year. This will be actor Ranveer Singh’s first association with the filmmaker. The two had earlier collaborated for an advertisement on a Chinese food product.

Simmba is a cop drama that focuses on a rough and tough police inspector. The film's makers released a behind-the-scenes video on Independence Day (15 Augst), stressing on the importance of women's safety.

The video features moments from the film’s fight sequences where Singh bashes up goons who presumably commit crimes against women. The fight sequences have Shetty’s stamp all over it. Needless to say, the film will be replete with action.

Shetty’s Singham (2011), starring Ajay Devgn, was not only a commercial success but is still remembered for its fearless protagonist, who was also a police officer. The success prompted the makers to come up with Singham Returns in 2015. It will be interesting to see how Simmba’s protagonist is different from Devgn's Singham.

Simmba is the official remake of Puri Jagannadh’s Telugu hit Temper (2015), which starred NT Rama Rao Jr. and Kajal Aggarwal.

The film also marks the debut of Sara Ali Khan, daughter of actor Saif Ali Khan and his first wife, actress Amrita Singh.
