Parambrata Chatterjee's Shonar Pahar to screen at Chicago, Boston film festivals

Parambrata Chatterjee’s Shonar Pahar has won hearts with its unusual storyline and strong message. Now, it is heading to various film festivals around the world. The film has been chosen to screen at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival and the Indian International Film Festival in Boston, Chatterjee recently announced on Twitter.

Shonar Pahar also marks the return of veteran actress Tanuja in Bengali films after three decades. The film also features child artiste Srijato Bandopadhyay, Jisshu Sengupta, Arunima Ghosh, Soumitra Chatterjee and the director himself. It was premiered at the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival where Tanuja and Chatterjee won the Best Actress and Best Actor In A Supporting Role awards, respectively.

“It feels really good. The fact that people really went and watched the film here meant a lot to me. The critical acclaim that we got across the board was also a great impetus. I had limited publicity but went on word-of-mouth. I thank the producer for backing a film like this and the audience too. We couldn’t send it to festivals earlier because we were busy finishing the film and then releasing it. But now that some festivals have started picking it up it feels absolutely wonderful. Let’s see how many more places it travels to and how the global audience reacts to it” the director told the Times of India, a daily.
