Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Manish Malhotra take viewers behind the scenes in two-part BBC documentary

British audiences got a chance to see what goes on behind the curtains in a new two-part BBC documentary called Bollywood: The World’s Biggest Film Industry. The documentary is hosted by British Asian presenter Anita Rani, who travelled to India’s film sets to show viewers what goes on behind the scenes of their favourite films.

Anita Rani shows the tricks of the trade from the Indian film industry — how every filming day is preceded by a prayer to Lord Ganesh, how there is no rehearsal time for the choreographed songs and how foley artists recreate the sounds you hear on screen.

The above clip shows veteran actor Anil Kapoor being taken through the dance steps of his film Fanney Khan (2018) by choreographer Ganesh Acharya. The choreographer does the dance himself and later after a bit of practice, the actor gives the final take. Fanney Khan (2018) was released earlier this month.

The presenter also met with actor Sidharth Malhotra, designer Manish Malhotra and actor-producer Ajay Devgn on the documentary about their work and careers. As an added bonus, she donned a wedding lehenga from Malhotra’s collection.

In the first episode, Anita Rani also learn a dance from Dabangg (2010), ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’, and becomes an item girl. In the second and final episode, due next Monday, the presenter will look at young British Asians who have tried their luck in the Hindi film industry.
