Director Sanjay Jadhav’s college campus drama Duniyadari (2013) became one of the big hits of Marathi cinema. This was followed by quite a few films based in campuses, like Classmates (2015) and Bus Stop (2017).
Sachin Suresh Darekar’s directorial debut Party is the latest to continue the trend. The film has an ensemble cast of Suvrat Joshi, Prajakta Mali, Akshay Tanksale, Rohit Haldikar, Stavan Shinde and Manjiri Pupala.
The film's trailer suggests Party is about four college friends (Joshi, Tanksale, Haldikar and Shinde) who don’t need a reason to celebrate as each day is a party for them. Mali and Pupala’s characters become a part of their lives later. Then, one day, their happy-go-lucky life comes to a halt owing to a tragedy. How will they bounce back?
Judging by the trailer, Party appears to be just another college flick revolving around a group of students. Barring a couple of moments, the trailer does not have enough meat to make you look forward to the film.
The one good thing about the trailer is that the makers haven’t revealed the tragedy that changes the friends' lives. A lot will depend on that in the film.
This is Joshi’s second film after Viju Mane’s Shikari (2018), which was released earlier this year.
Produced by Navavidha Production and Dark Horse Cinema, Party will be released on 7 September. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think of the film's box-office prospects.
