The Tamil film industry today paid glorious tributes to one of its outstanding screenplay and dialogue writers, Muthuvel Karunanidhi.
Members of the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) or Nadigar Sangam, the Film Employees Federation of South India, the Chinnathirai Nadigar Sangam and Kootamaippu all came together to organize the event at the Kamaraj Arangam to pay homage to the great leader, who was also chief minister of Tamil Nadu five times.

The event began with the lighting of candles by the son of the late DMK chief, MK Stalin. Others who lit candles and paid homage included superstar Rajinikanth, Nadigar Sangam president Nassar, general secretary Vishal, Karthi, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Revathy, Lizzy, Vivek, Vikram, Prabhu, Radharavi, Vasundhara, Kutty Padmini, Jiiva, Ganesh, Aarthi, Nandha, KT Kunjumon and SP Muthuraman.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishal, also the Tamil Film Producers Council president, called Karunanidhi "a boon" to the Tamil film industry.
"Many of those who lived before us would be forgotten, but not the name and life of Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi," Vishal said. "Karunanidhi is a rare gem whose triumphs and accomplishments in different fields remain unmatched. Who can forget a man like him who gave free electricity to farmers? As director SP Muthuraman pointed out, he is an inspiration to youngsters when it comes to making use of time."
The actor, on behalf of the Nadigar Sangam, requested that the screenplay writer's pen be put on display in the new SIAA building. "We want current and future generations to see this precious treasure using which he wrote many poems, literary pieces and dialogues,” Vishal said.
