The title of the film on groom kidnapping produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures is called Jabariya Jodi. The film will be helmed by first-timer Prashant Singh and will feature Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra.

The film is said to be based on the rising kidnappings of grooms in Bihar. The grooms are picked up so that the bride’s parents don't have to pay dowry. The word 'jabariya' means forced. It was buzzed earlier that the film would be called Shotgun Shaadi.

The film went on the floors today and Malhotra made an announcement announcement on his Twitter page.

Malhora will be playing a Bhojpuri character for the first time. Not so long ago, the actor was trolled online for inadvertently insulting the Bhojpuri language on a reality television show. Bhojpuri superstar Manoj Tiwari and actress Neetu Chandra had slammed him for his comment, for which Malhotra later apologized.

Malhotra and Chopra were last seen together in Hasee Toh Phasee (2014).

Prashant Singh has earlier assisted filmmaker Aanand L Rai on Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Raanjhanaa (2013). He was also an assistant director on Bas Ek Pal (2006), Aladin (2009) and Issaq (2013).
