The situational song has the sequel’s characters echoing the 1958 Howrah Bridge number to get out of a sticky situation.

In the second song from Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018), the sequel to 2016’s surprise hit, Happy Bhag Jayegi, the gang of Sonakshi Sinha, Jassie Gill, Jimmy Sheirgill and Piyush Mishra resort to updating an old classic with Punjabi beats. The remake is situated in a Chinese gambling den where the four characters accidentally stumble into when they are on the run from someone.

The remake is composed by Sohail Sen while writer-director Mudassar Aziz has changed the original lyrics to give it a Punjabi touch and performs a small rap portion as well. New joinees to the cast, Sinha and Gill, do double duty on the song as singers and performers.

The original number from Shakti Samanta’s Howrah Bridge (1958) made Helen an overnight star with the catchy, unforgettable music. Composed by OP Nayyar, the song was penned by Qamar Jalalabadi. It’s the dual combination of Helen’s effortless dancing and singer Geeta Dutt’s easy rendition that made it a classic.

This updated song has added a few beats with the tabla, dholak and mandolin for a Punjabi flavour and makes it slightly different than the original. But the inevitable comparisons arise, and one longs to see Helen again.

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018), produced by Aanand L Rai and Krishika Lulla, is due to be released on 24 August 2018.
